The foundation
A foundation open to Europe
In a wide European perspective, in 1999 the Municipality of Lavarone, in cooperation with the Tiroler Kaiserjäger-Bund Innsbruck (Austria), constituted the Belvedere-Gschwent-Foundation providing it with an endowment half formed by the documents and historical artifacts of the Municipality of Lavarone and half by the sponsorship of the Central Bank of the Tyrolean “Casse Rurali” through the Tyrolean Kaiserjäger-Bund.
According to its statute the Belvedere-Gschwent- Foundation is a non-profit organization and its task is to run and manage the fortress developing activities to enhance historical memory in order to develop a culture of peace avoiding demagoguery and creating the leitmotif of an operative path.
Being the only International Foundation in the Province of Trento, it was meant as the symbol of a new way of considering this historic site not only as a very important estate on a provincial or national scale but also as everyone's heritage. This is an unavoidable value in the creation of the consciousness of a European collaboration.
The Foundation is a private body with unlimited duration and is governed by a Board of Directors whose members are appointed by the two founders. Only the Municipality of Lavarone, however, is authorized to nominate the President and the auditors.
